National Picnic Day

Happy National Picnic Day!

Picnics are my ABSOLUTE favorite. I don’t know if it’s the hopeless romantic side I swear doesn’t exist, or because it’s a way to enjoy the outdoors and spending time with your loved ones, but whatever it is, I am not complaining. Picnic’s don’t have to be difficult or expensive. I am going to give you some easy and quick tips for a fun and easy picnic. I will also share some affordable picnic baskets you can get for any future picnics. The picnic basket I have I bought 6 years ago for under $100 and it was probably one of the best investments I have made.

REFRESHMENTS

You can’t have a picnic without a refreshing drink but if this is an adults only party go ahead and whip out the wine or champagne bottles. Here are a couple of refreshment ideas you can do for your picnic:

  • Strawberry lemonade or regular lemonade (add strawberries or lemon slices for the aesthetic look)

  • Mimosas

  • Orange juice (add orange slices)

  • Wine

  • Sparkling water and you can garnish it with anything you have around the house

P.S. You can find the glass drinking jars and mason jars with a lid & Straw in a 2-pack for $3-$5 at Target in the $1 section

THINGS YOU PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE AT HOME

There’s really no need to go out and purchase a lot of items for a picnic unless you really want to. Here’s a list of things you probably already have at home you can use for a picnic:

  • Blanket / quilt / towel

  • Flowers (artificial or real )

  • Mason jars (for your drinks) you can also add a reusable straw

  • Old Easter or Woven baskets to hold your snacks

  • Sandwiches are perfect for picnics and chances are you probably have stuff for sandwiches at home (cut them into squares to make them bite size)

DIY Charcuterie Board

Raise your hand if you love a good cheese and meat board?! (((RAISES HAND))) The below cost me $8, this is perfect for snack time, or just to pick at. (I purchase my cheese and meats at Target but you can get these on the go snacks at any grocery store in the Deli section or where you would regularly find lunchables)

FOOD ITEMS

There are multiple choices for your picnic, at the end of the day it is YOUR picnic so you can have anything. Here are some suggestions that I know I would enjoy:

  • Fruits

  • Sandwiches

  • Salads

  • Waffles (preferably mini)

  • Pasta salad

  • Chicken salad

  • Crackers

  • Sweets like cupcakes & brownies

The idea is to have stuff you can snack on, finger foods, lite bites

PICNIC BASKET

You don’t need a picnic basket but if you like picnics and have kids then I think an investment in a good picnic basket is worth it. I purchase my basket at Macy’s but now they have them on amazon. I’ll share some of my favorite baskets with you in hopes that you can find the perfect one to keep!

ADDITIONAL PICNIC BASKET ITEMS

Whatever you decide to bring and prepare for your picnic, just know the best thing about a picnic is spending that sweet time with your loved ones.
